Michaela Powell and Alex Smith:
Dr. Lisa, why do we blush when we're embarrassed?
Dr. Lisa Thornton:
Everyone blushes. It's just easier to see it in some people than in others. But don't worry, it's a normal reaction to embarrassment, anxiety or excitement. Because of the increased blood flow through the tiny vessels in your skin, your cheeks, nose, ears and neck may get flushed and turn rosy. You probably can't avoid the situations that make you blush, but you can work on controlling blushing. Practice relaxing. Take some slow deep breaths and imagine yourself getting through an embarrassing situation with laughter and enjoyment. And if you still blush, don't worry about it, it can be charming.
