Never Assume: Care Givers

Aired on Lifetime Television
Sunday, January 15 and May 7, 2006
Show 302

"When my mother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's, I was paralyzed with fear. Our family gathered to plan what to do, thinking my mother had no idea what was going on. But she did," says Leeza. "When you are care giving, you can never assume what the person is feeling or thinking. Assuming is dangerous," advises Dr. Jamie. Leeza adds, "Also, don't ever assume the role another family member might take. I did this in my own family and was wrong. You need to talk about things, not assume."
