Rosacea is a common inflammatory skin condition that affects more than 14 million Americans. The actual cause is unknown. However, a number of factors can aggravate rosacea causing increased blood flow to the surface which results in brightness of the cheeks, nose, forehead, and chin. There is no cure, but there are things you can do to control the symptoms. Avoid facial products that contain alcohol. Avoid sun exposure and use sunscreen. Protect your face from winter cold by using a scarf. And avoid spicy foods and alcohol. While rosacea is not a dangerous condition, it can worsen if left untreated. The redness may become redder, warm to the touch, more persistent and blood vessels may appear. You should see your dermatologist for diagnosis and medication. Your dermatologist may recommend certain moisturizers, soaps, or sunscreens to improve the health of your skin.
