Leeza's seventh commandment of care giving is, "Don't Fall Prey to Shame & Stigma." Care giver Larry tries to keep his wife Marla's Alzheimer's a secret. But the children want to see her receive more medical treatment for her condition. "Society isn't supportive of aging," notes Leeza. "But shame and stigma kill. Education is empowering. Cognitive impairment might be depression. Other things can mimic Alzheimer's," says Dr. Jamie. Leeza suggests, "Call a friend and share your feelings. And talk openly with the ill person. Give them a sense of power."
