ADHD Adults and Kids:
Health Story

Aired on Lifetime Television for Women
Sunday, February 5 and March 19
Show 305

Jim Ryan and his son have ADHD. "ADHD is highly genetic," says Dr. David W. Goodman, Medical Director of Adult Attention Deficit Disorder Center. One in three parents who have ADHD also has a child with it, but only 15 to 25 percent of adults with ADHD know that they have it. Symptoms of ADHD are inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsivity. "Almost 75 percent of those with ADHD suffer emotional disorders. Behavioral therapy is only helpful when a patient is also on medication. Without medication there is the likelihood of academic failure and substance abuse," says Dr. Goodman. "My son will develop his full potential. He will be able to take on challenges I would have never been able to," says Jim.
